The Musical Artistic Society of Pousos – SAMP – is a Public Utility Institution founded in 1873.
Its first president was the Baron of Viamonte, a prominent figure in national politics, belonging to the regenerating and progressive parties, and twice Civil Governor of the District of Leiria. Among the various personalities who then participated in its constitution is Eça de Queiroz, one of its first
and major meritorious members.
With uninterrupted activity since its foundation, despite the crises caused by the Great Wars and the emigrant currents, SAMP has played an important role at the regional level, and in some of its areas at the national level, either by the significant number of professional artists that have out, whether for the innovation and quality of some of its programs.
In addition to the Philharmonic, the institution’s historic body, a School of Arts with official music teaching, and various choral and instrumental formations, SAMP develops in partnership with various institutions and State bodies a wide range of programs in the fields of Training, Music Therapy and Expressive Therapies.
SAMP activity, its artistic education project dedicated to early childhood stands out, which it pioneered at national level and constitutes a reference with some of its programs, as well as the strong social intervention that the various programs that it develops assume. within the scope of the therapeutic effects of the arts.
